PCM Thermal Energy Storage
A phase-change-material thermal battery, from CAD to CFD to an instrumented test rig.
My Bachelor thesis designed and validated a shell-and-tube phase-change-material (paraffin) thermal battery for energy storage.
I built a full CAD-to-mesh-to-CFD workflow (SolidWorks, HyperMesh, STAR-CCM+) to model the transient charging process, optimizing PCM thickness, tube pitch, and flow conditions. To validate the simulations, I designed and instrumented a 9-thermocouple PCM test rig, confirming the predicted melting trends across multiple flow orientations and rates, and assessed nanoparticle-enhanced melting.
