Vapor Chamber for Fiber-Laser Cooling

A vapor-chamber and heat-sink assembly to air-cool a high-power fiber laser.

During a summer internship at DRDO LASTEC, I designed a vapor-chamber plus heat-sink assembly to air-cool an \(\sim 800\,\text{W}\) dual-source heat load from a high-power fiber laser, minimizing total thermal resistance across the wall, vapor, wick, and fin.

I screened sintered-powder and grooved wick concepts by quantifying capillary pressure limits against Darcy pressure drop, and optimized rectangular versus pin-fin heat-sink geometries using boundary-layer and heat-transfer analysis.

A related winter project simulated helium flow through a Zanker flow conditioner in ANSYS, evaluating flow stabilization, pressure drop, and development length for a \(383\,\text{K}\), 6 bar duct-flow application.
